Past Events
- Migratory Bird Awareness Day in AVVA . On March 13th 2021 a wildlife biologist named Joe Roy from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife came to our house at 36 Mount Tumbledown to meet with Steve, Rose, and me to discuss Maine’s “Beginning with Habitat“. Joe provided a lot of great information about how we can manage our properties to better serve the native wild life and the migratory bird populations in the AVVA area. Joe left several brochures about the program. I placed these brochures in some mailboxes for a few folks in the neighborhood who have expressed interest. If you are interested in learning more about these programs let me know by sending an email to me at james.salvadore@dell.com or call my cell at 508-530-2495. In the meanwhile, check out the “FFMB Guide” for Maine landowners to get an idea of what is involved in these programs. If you want to reach out to Joe directly his contact information is: Joseph Roy: email: Joseph.Roy@Maine.gov, phone: 207-592-3344

- Pollinator Conservation Program. Another program that Joe is involved in and encouraged us to participate in is the Pollinator Conservation Program. This program is run by the Xerces Society who’s primary goal is to protect and help encourage the development new pollinator habitat. This campaign is focused on four simple principles: growing pollinator-friendly flowers, providing nest sites, avoiding pesticides, and spreading the word. They offer wild flower seed packs specifically tailored for different areas in North America. Rose and I are planning on ordering pollinator seed packs specifically tailored for the North East Region and spreading them on our property. These seed packs produce wild flowers which require very low maintenance. If you are interested in finding out more information or ordering the seed packs go to Pollinator Conservation Resources: Northeast Region
